How does coaching work?

The work of coaching is about exploration, discovery and possibility. It’s a process whereby you look inside to deepen learning about yourself, and ultimately forward actions that will result in a more fulfilling life.

To achieve this, we'll design an alliance together, creating a safe space to learn about yourself and commit to resonant and meaningful actions. This alliance is about sharing a common understanding of goals, objectives and expectations. It’s about creating a different kind of relationship: a coach will not solve problems for you, but will help you solve your own problems. As such, this alliance is unique for every person. It’s based on what works for you, on who you want to be, on how you want to get there.

Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to be genuinely curious. You’ll hear me checking things out, replaying what I hear you say, and encouraging you to bottom-line what’s really important. Coaching is all about curiosity – uncovering what motivates you, labelling your values and beliefs, finding what gets you stuck and inquiring about how to get beyond that.

Most importantly, coaching is all about accountable action. With all of this great learning you’ll have done about yourself, what resonant and thrilling goals do you need to make to achieve your most fulfilling aspirations? How can your achievements be specific and measurable? What will success be like and how can you make sure that you get there, stepping past the land of good ideas into the world of committed actions.

These are the foundations of coaching. A coach will provide you with the structures to get there. A coach will ask you powerful questions and hold you accountable to your actions. A coach will hold up your mirror of possibility and allow you to become the person you most want to be.
